eLearning Plan

eLearning Plan — 2025–2026

Felton Laboratory Charter School is designated as an eLearning School by the South Carolina Department of Education. Schools meeting this designation may use up to five eLearning days each year to minimize disruptions caused by short-term emergencies, including inclement weather.

Student & Teacher Expectations

 

Student Work & Instruction
- K–2 Students: Assignments will be posted on Class Dojo or Google Classroom.
- Grades 3–8 Students: Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, Class Dojo, and communicated through school Gmail accounts.

Students are expected to:
- Log in to scheduled Zoom sessions
- Complete and submit assigned work
- Maintain communication with teachers via Zoom, email, Google Voice, or text
- Contact teachers promptly if challenges arise

Teachers are expected to report virtually, begin classes on time, and maintain availability throughout the day. If a teacher is absent, a substitute or assigned learning platform will be provided for continued instruction.

 

Online Presence & Behavior
- Students must attend live Zoom sessions daily.
- Cameras must remain on during sessions, and students should be appropriately dressed and prepared to learn.
- Teachers will provide clear written instructions for accessing all digital platforms.

 

Attendance & Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Felton uses PowerSchool and PowerTeacher for attendance and grading.
- Google Classroom and Clever will be used for delivering instruction, assignments, and assessments.
- Teachers will track student progress and participation through LMS reports and data analysis tools.

LMS administration — including account setup, troubleshooting, and enrollment — will be managed by the Technology Team.

Instructional Tools Include:
IXL, Khan Academy, iReady, Flocabulary, BrainPOP Jr., Imagine Edgenuity, Newsela, Kahoot, Savvas Realize, Quizizz, Quizlet, Seesaw, Wizer.me, and others.

- Flex Time for assignment completion
- Parent Meetings

 

eLearning Day Schedules
Felton may operate on the following schedules based on the situation:
- Schedule A — Full Day: 7:50 AM – 2:26 PM (Seven 50-minute periods with a lunch break)
- Schedule B — Half Day: 7:50 AM – 11:26 AM (Six 30-minute periods with a break)

Each teacher will provide specific meeting times for classes and parent conferences.
- Daily Virtual Faculty Meeting at 3:30 PM on assigned elearning day
- Weekly PLCs: Every Wednesday during designated planning periods

Felton uses the SwiftReachK12 system to notify families via call, text, email, and website updates.

Teachers will communicate directly with students and families through:
- Email
- Phone
- Class Dojo
- Google Classroom

The Inclement Weather & eLearning Policy will be explained in detail through:
- Parent letters
- Board meetings
- Classroom discussions with students

For help with lessons, students should first contact their teacher.

Special Programs
Special Education:
- Direct instruction provided via Zoom according to each student's IEP.
- Ongoing collaboration with general education teachers and support for parents.

ESOL Services:
- Scheduled virtual instruction and support via Zoom.
- Collaboration with teachers to support language proficiency growth.
